What the job involves
Overgrown foundation shrubs are the most common thing we see. The bushes across the front of the house go in small, and nobody notices them getting big until they're over the windowsill and the porch light has disappeared. By then a light trim won't fix it — it needs cutting back hard, and that's a different job.
We'll tell you which one yours needs. And if cutting back that hard is going to look rough for a season before it looks good, we'll tell you that too, rather than let you find out in April.
What's included: bushes, hedges and shrubs trimmed to shape; overgrown foundation plantings cut back off windows, walks and gutters; hedges squared and evened; dead and crossing branches taken out; all clippings hauled away; and the beds blown off clean underneath.
Timing matters. Late winter to early spring is the safe window for most shrubs, before growth starts. Mid-summer touch-ups keep hedges sharp. The exception is anything that blooms on old wood — lilac, forsythia, some hydrangeas — which should be cut right after it finishes flowering, or you'll trim off next year's blooms.
Worth knowing
Shrubs and hedges only. No tree trimming, no climbing, no removal.
